Angela Sargent
Born and educated in the UK, Ms. Angela Sargent received her degree in Archaeological Science. She worked in Radio Carbon Dating, county archeology and on various archaeological excavations. She specialised in Forensic Archaeology and then transferred her skills to work in orthopaedic research, using archaeological material to enforce modern research. After then working for a few years in medical sales, she took a career break to raise a family.
Ms. Sargent moved to Canada with her husband’s work. She went back to work in medical sales before returning to school and receiving her certificate in broadcasting from BCIT. She worked as a radio journalist for CBC North, 600AM and CFML; and in copy writing for C-Fun, 600AM and JRFM. There was also promotion work for JRFM, 600AM and The Peak.
Captain Sargent’s Cadet involvement began, like so many when her son joined the program. She worked on the sponsor committee with 525 RCACS in West Vancouver, then was recruited to the training side as a Cadet Instructor and then a CIC officer. She took command of 835 RCACS in Squamish for a number of years, then 103 RCACS in North Vancouver. She loved being a CIC officer and spending time at FTXs, outings, effective speaking and range as well as weekly training.
When the public affairs program was expanded, her journalistic skills were called upon and she became the first officer to work as a UPAR (Unit Public Affairs Representative) in events outside of summer training. Captain Sargent spent her summers as a UPAR at Albert Head and at the Cadet Flying Training Centre, at CFB Comox.
After retirement, Ms. Sargent and was persuaded back to the Air Cadet League where she is now a member of the BC Board of Directors and the National Communications Committee.
She is married to Mike, a paediatric radiologist at BC Childrens Hospital, has three adult sons and two grandchildren.
